Gypsy Dane

Gypsy Dane. That's her name. Yes, she sits in the parking lot just south of Avon awaiting her fate.

She was seaworthy and the fateful voyage in the Graveyard of the Atlantic did her in. She was misguided by her Captain and ran aground on the Avon beach. After the dilemma of who was going to remove her and how the task would be done, she finally was hauled down the beach, over the dune to her current resting place.

Her masts have been removed so her presence has been diminished but everyone who travels Highway 12 South heading to Buxton, Frisco or Hatteras...possibly even Ocracoke and points further south stop to check her out. It's quite the sight to see and pretty amazing in itself.

From NY to NC, Gypsy Dane has seen her last voyage...at least for now.
